Breast Ultrasound
What is Breast Ultrasound?
The primary use of breast ultrasound is to further evaluate an abnormal finding on mammography or to evaluate a clinical symptom, such as a palpable lump or focal breast pain. Breast ultrasound is also essential to the diagnosis of breast cancer. One of the greatest benefits of breast ultrasound is that it does not use any radiation and is a painless procedure.
How should I prepare for the exam?
Because you will be removing your clothing from the waist up, it is a good idea to wear a two-piece outfit. Also, please do not use any lotions or powders on your breasts. You may use deodorant.
Who interprets the results and how do I get them?
A board certified radiologist will analyze the images and send a final report to your primary care or referring physician within 24 hours; however, if a radiologist is onsite we are often available to provide you with your results while you wait.
